In the end, the whole circuit breaker drama was scrapped, and a shiny new alternator with a warranty was installed. So far, so good. SUCH a relief. The guys at Auto Electric Service in Missoula (I can advertise now that all's well), didn't even charge us a penny more. They were nice guys throughout the whole process, even though the week+ long drama made me hella nervous, and I admit to not being too sure about them at times. But now all feelings are warm and fuzzy, and it feels good to have a mechanic who isn't going to stick it to you.
And a car that runs.

Yay, I'm so glad to hear that you're having a happy ending to your car drama! At least I hope it's the end. :)
Cars can be such a pita. My Ford Tempo that I'd had for 4 years had major electrical problems but I never had the money to take it in. The dashlights went out, the switch for the headlights had to be turned and pulled a certain way to turn the headlights on (no puns, Steve), the radio only worked some times...
I'm glad to hear you have a trustworthy mechanic, too. Those are totally worth their weight in gold (or chocolate, your preference).
Thanks :) I hope I don't have to ever use them again, but if problems arise, I'm sure I'll go back to them.
I know the little Honda is about 11 years old now and I shouldn't expect great things...but I adore little, reliable cars and hope this one lasts quite a bit more.
Yay!
