Things That Annoy Me About Myself - 2

So, one of my bosses here at the university brought in her hyper little dog today - a miniature greyhound named "Speedy." I was thrilled since I could just play with the thing all day long. Pretty darn cute, and damn spindly! The poor thing has already suffered a myriad of injuries, and apparently has like a few pins in its hip right now.

As for annoying myself, the boss, "Betty," told me, "His name used to be Winston, then it was Anubis before it was Speedy.

Looking at the dog, I said, "Anubis? That's a dumb name! Good thing your name is Speedy!"

Then Betty proceeded to inform me that she had been the one to name him Anubis, it was an old boyfriend who had changed his name to Speedy.

Oh.

*gulp*

Heh. I think Anubis is a cool name. Of course, my cat's name is Osiris. And, two of my other cats have been named Ramses and Isis. Lots of Ss you know; cats love Ss. *cough* ;)

Well, to be honest, when I had my "exotic" cat in Thailand, I named her Anaksunamoon (yes, I know the spelling sucks) from "The Mummy" movies. Also, because I thought I'd be calling her "Anak" anyways, which means "child" in Tagalog. So, I'm just as much of a geek.

But Anubis didn't seem to be a fitting, roll-off-the-tongue name to call your little teeny mini-greyhound, and pets should have "easy" names, I think. Something you can imagine yourself calling out. I can't picture myself calling out "Anubis! Anubis!"

I'm overanalyzing this, damnit.

I do like Isis and Ramses though :)
All my pets have been named after people, either characters or real life. And I've just realized now that most of them start with an S...Sabina...Seamus...Scully. Hmmm.

Overanalyzing again...

Heh. No worries. We actually call Osiris, Siris, because saying 'OH Siris' just seems silly. ;)

But, this also means that when I read Harry Potter, I read 'Siris' instead of 'Sirius.' :P

When I picture a god that is Lord of the Dead, I don't think a miniature ANYTHING is what springs to mind.

I just thought of the perfect name for that dog -- HERMES!

Since we're on this whole god kick.

We always had a rule about naming pets, and I'm sure you've heard it (it's not very original) - if you imagine yourself yelling your pet's name out your back door and yelling that particular name makes you feel like an ass.. it's probably not a good name for YOUR pet. :P

All our pets had people names. We once adopted a cat whose name was Bibi, but we didn't change it because he was ancient. And as a former show cat, it somehow fit him really well. Not the brightest cat in the world, but he was really sweet.
