(technically, I don't know if it's a Scottish thistle, but it looks just like one (color too), and we just happened to be at the big KC Scottish festival at the time).

Ohhh pretty! Lovely yet dangerous! Beau loves to tease me about the old story about how when the Nordic people tried to invade/kill the Scots, they took off their shoes to tippy-toe through the night and surprise the Highlanders. Unfortunately, they were not aware of the infamous Scottish thistle, and their howls of pain alerted the Scots pretty quickly to their presence. Oops!
